After last night’s unbelievable game between Liverpool and Barcelona, Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino knew that anything is possible when they traveled to Amsterdam to face Ajax tonight.
Tottenham faced the difficult challenge of overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first-leg, against an Ajax side who were on a high after winning their first trophy since 2014 on Sunday.
Ajax has been desperate to reach their first Champions League final since 1995, with this to be their only chance with this immensely talented squad.
But this night, Ajax’s dreams have been shattered down by Tottenham’s Lucas Moura with a hattrick. His goals came in the 55th, 59th and the third one came in the 90th minute.
The match ended 2:3 in favor of Tottenham, this made the 2nd leg, aggregate score:(3 – 3) and spurs qualified basing on the away goals rule.
Even the most optimistic Tottenham fan could not have held out much hope after star forwards Harry Kane was ruled out of the second leg through injury.
Lucas Moura scored a winner which will live long in the memory, while Ajax switched off. Cue scenes of wild and noisy at the final whistle.
Indeed some of the biggest moments in Champions League history involve teams fighting back from several goals down to defy the odds and Tottenham has shown it today.
